PAUL RYNEARSON The
excitement and romance of numismatics captured my heart when I was
very young. After collecting American and foreign coins for several
years, I bought my first ancient Roman bronze when 13 years old.
The fact that the entire inscription was legible, that the coin
had a pleasing portrait and a mintmark like U.S. coins, and that
I could hold in my hand something nearly 2000 years old with a story
to tell, enticed me. The three-dollar purchase price took a few
weeks to earn, but the romance of the coin's history fired an enthusiasm
and an appreciation for modern coins as well that lasts to this
day.
As a university student I began dealing in coins in 1967, and
have consistently provided service to my clients with personal attention
and integrity. I have an academic background in art history and
music; my graduate degrees are from Claremont Graduate University
(Master of Arts) and from the University of Southern California
(Doctorate). I have been a consultant for many museums, major coin
firms and auction houses, while authoring dozens of articles on
all phases of coinage, and two numismatic books. A special contributor
to the Red Book (Guide Book of U.S. Coins) for many years, I continue
my interest in all phases of coinage. My numerous memberships in
numismatic societies include the International
Association of Professional Numismatists (IAPN), Royal
Numismatic Society (RNS), American
Numismatic Association (ANA), American
Numismatic Society (ANS) and Numismatic
Literary Guild (NLG). I grew up and live in Southern California
with my wife Nicole, who takes an active role in our business. The
longer I am involved in numismatics, the more I perceive multum
in parvo.
